Academic Standing Review

At the end of each quarter, a student's Academic Standing is determined based on their cumulative and term GPA. Eighth College communicates with students about their academic standing through a notification in the Virtual Advising Center (VAC). The notification includes information about their academic standing as well and how to return to Good Standing. Students are encouraged to speak with Eighth Advising about their Academic Standing if they receive a notification in the Virtual Advising Center. Our advisors are here to support students through the entire academic standing review process!

There are three levels of academic standing at UC San Diego:

  1. Good Standing - term and cumulative grade point average (GPA) are 2.0 or higher
  2. Academic Notice - term GPA is at least 1.5 but less than 2.0 or the cumulative GPA is less than 2.0 and the student is not Subject to Disqualification
  3. Subject to Disqualification - term GPA is less than 1.5 or the student completed two successive terms on Academic Notice and the cumulative GPA is below 2.0

At the end of each academic year, each college conducts a holistic academic standing review of its students. Please review this Academic Standing Review information for further details on the review process, timing, and the opportunity to appeal.
