 Welcome to our Eighth College's Residential Community! 

Our team will continue to update this page with any new information as we get closer to Fall move-in weekend. Please also reference your UCSD email, Eighth College residents will receive an email from our team with move-in instructions as we get closer to Fall Move-in. 

Room Assignment

What is MyRoomAssignment? ---- This is launched through your student Housing Portal to access your assignment information; view roommates and suite/apartment-mates; and select your move-in and date time to arrive on campus.

2024-2025 Eighth College residents are projected to able to access this website beginning on August 21st. If you attempt to view this webpage prior to August 21st, you may be sent to a NO ACCESS page.

  • MyRoomAssignment launches based on the schedule above.  Once you are able to login, you can review your assignment information and select your move-in date and time.  All students must select a move-in date and time or one will be assigned to you.

Move-In Date/Time

MyRoomAssignment launches based on the schedule below.  Once you are able to login, you can review your assignment information and select your move-in date and time.  All students must select a move-in date and time or one will be assigned to you. You will be allowed to change your move-in date after August 21st, 2024. The majority of our residents will be moving into their residence between the dates of September 18th-22nd.

  • Move-in Times: Most housing areas will roughly offer times starting at 8:30am/9:00am through 4:00pm.  Some areas may go a little longer on particular days. Specific Hours and Dates will be available for you to view on your MyRoomAssignement.

  • In order to assist with traffic and parking availability, please do not arrive earlier than your specified move-in date and time.Please contact our Residential Life office if you are having any issues with your assigned move-in date/time.

 

Move-In Logistics

Visit your MyRoomAssignment Page on your UCSD Housing Portal. On MyRoomAssignment, you will be assigned a move-in date and time, but you'll have the ability to change your date and time prior to the listed deadline. The MyRoomAssignment page will also contain your roommate/ suite mate names and contact info. Please make sure to contact your roommates prior to move-in to discuss shared items such as TVs, microwaves and mini-fridges.

Please note that in-person orientation will be held September 23rd-24th, 2024 for our incoming Eighth College student body. Students are to choose and attend 1 of these dates. You are NOT allowed to move in the day of orientation, please make sure you are able to attend your assigned in-person orientation. If issues arise with these dates, please email eighthorientation@ucsd.edu.

MOVE-IN INSTRUCTIONS

Please remember to view AND bring your QwikPass with you when you move-in along with some form of Photo ID. You will be able to find your QwikPass on your Housing Portal. You can either print your QwikPass or have it available on your smartphone. Your QwikPass will include the following information:

  • Assigned room and bed space
  • Campus mailing address
  • Your assigned move-in date and time
  • Your specific electronic lock PIN CODE.
    • This PIN CODE will be necessary to enter your bedspace, please note it down for future reference. 

In order to assist with traffic and parking availability, please do not arrive earlier than your specified move-in date and time. You must let the Res Life Office know of a late arrival! You can email us at eighthreslife@ucsd.edu or call us at 858-822-6556.

We will send out more information and update this page regarding where to check in as Move-In Weekend approaches. 

 

General Information:

  • Renters Insurance: 
    • Have your parent or guardian check to see if their homeowner's or renter's policy covers you while you are here at UC San Diego. You may need extra coverage for computers, jewelry, personal liability, etc. If you are not covered, we recommend you look into renters' insurance. If you need personal property insurance, please contact National Student Services Incorporated at http://www.nssi.com/. NSSI specializes in student personal property insurance.
  • Singles:
    • Unfortunately, the demand for singles far exceeds the number of single rooms available so not all students who request a single room will be assigned to one. There is an additional cost per year to live in a single room. Please check HDH Housing Page to view updated housing costs.
  • Roommates: 
    • Generally students will begin to receive more detailed information about move in day in early September.  Be sure to ask one another what you are bringing (so you do not end up with multiple appliances in your space) and discuss whether you would like to share appliances (Mini-fridges, TVs, Microwaves, etc.). You will recieve your roommates contact information on your MyRoomAssignment. 
  • Moving Equipment:
    •  A hand truck or dolly to carry heavy or bulky items always makes the moving process easier. A limited number of carts will be available for check-out during September 18th, 2024 to Septmeber 22nd, 2024.  
  • Late arrivals: 
    • You must let the Res Life Office know of a late arrival! You can email us at Eighthreslife@ucsd.edu or call us at 858-822-6556.
  • Prohibited Items:
    • Please reference UCSD's HDH (Housing, Dining, and Hospitality) Webpage for more information on prohibited items.
