This is everyday life when you call campus home!
The majority of first-year students at UC San Diego live on campus. Eighth College residents have access to resources that offer transitional support and foster personal growth.
Eighth College students have the opportunity to call the Theatre District Living and Learning Neigborhood home. Our College’s neighborhood promotes a sense of community and healthy living through physical, mental and social well-being by connecting with nature for learning, relaxation and recreation.
Eighth's residential neighborhood is on the southernmost part of campus near the theatre district - across from the world famous La Jolla Playhouse and with views of the stunning La Jolla shoreline!
Actively under construction to welcome you home in Fall 2023, you'll reside in the newest living and learning facilities on campus! Enjoy the renderings below to get a glimpse of what our team is hard at work building for you.
UPDATE: 4/27/23
As we get closer to the fall quarter and the exciting launch of Eighth College, we wanted to share an update on student housing. In September, on-campus housing for the majority of incoming Eighth College students will be provided in building five of Theatre District Living and Learning Neighborhood (in Eighth College), with additional students at North Torrey Pines Living and Learning Neighborhood (in Sixth College). The academic space for the new provost as well as the general assignment classrooms are in building five and will be available in September.
The other four buildings with the remainder of the student residences are anticipated to open during winter quarter. UC San Diego’s housing guarantee is still in place—the incoming undergraduate class for the fall of 2023 will be eligible for a two-year on-campus housing guarantee. One innovative approach the university takes advantage of to reduce construction impacts is prefabricating interior and exterior wall panels. This reduces on-site noise, traffic and parking, while also reducing waste and improving quality and safety. The primary driver of the delay is a delay in receiving these prefabricated materials, but supply chain issues and an extreme amount of rain also contributed.
Eighth College and HDH staff are committed to providing our community of students the highest level of care during the Eighth College opening.
When you choose to live at UC San Diego, you grow and benefit from staff trained to create an environment that supports living and learning. Visit the Housing • Dining • Hospitality (HDH) website for information on housing contracts, room selection, and important dates and deadlines.
