Frequently Asked Questions

Where are CCE classes taught?

Most CCE classes meet on the second floor of Podemos (273, 274, and 275). The second floor is accessible by elevator or the external staircase. Some CCE classes meet on the ground floor of Podemos or in other buildings near the Theatre District. The schedule of classes includes links to building/room numbers and campus maps.

Who teaches CCE courses?

CCE courses are taught by a multidisciplinary, eclectic group of scholars, activists, community organizers, artists, and creative writers. You can learn more about us by reading our bios.

Who can I contact with feedback about the CCE Academic Program?

We begin from the premise that you are a stakeholder in your education, and we want you to speak into the curriculum. We encourage you to contact us at EighthCCE@ucsd.edu to share your ideas, offer constructive criticism, and imagine different possibilities for CCE.

Which CCE courses can I take over the summer?

This summer is the first time we are offering CCE courses during the summer. We are still learning about which courses you want to take, in which formats (in-person, remote, etc.), and at which times, so please know we are open to your suggestions. In Summer 2026, we will be offering the following courses:

Summer Session 1

  • CCE 1: TTh 2:00-4:50 pm | Ash Merryman
  • CCE 120: TTh 11:00 am-1:50 pm | Kassy Lee

Summer Session 2

  • CCE 2: TTh 8:00-10:50 am | Davíd Morales
  • CCE 2: TTh 11:00 am-1:50 pm | Angela Mendoza
  • CCE 120: MW 11:00 am-1:50 pm | Nancy Nguyen

What should transfer students know about CCE?

First of all, you should know how excited we are to welcome you to Eighth College! Fall 2026 will be the first time we have welcomed a cohort of transfer students. Since CCE 110 is a brand-new course, we especially want to hear how things are going for you. You should also know we work closely with other areas in Eighth College and the Triton Transfer Hub to ensure that you experience a smooth transition. You can reach us at EighthCCE@ucsd.edu.

What should I do if I am on the waitlist for a CCE course?

Waitlisted students can be added to a section only after other students drop. Since there is some movement of students during the first few weeks of class, you can attend class meetings in the event that a space opens up. However, there is no guarantee that a space will open up, and seats cannot be added.

Since we now offer every CCE course every quarter (and over the summer), there will be additional opportunities to enroll in the class next time around. If you are concerned that your time to degree might be affected, please send Eighth Advising a message in the Virtual Advising Center (VAC).

Who can I contact if I need support?

Dean Sarah Gallenberg can connect you with on and off-campus resources, offer a listening ear, talk about possible academic accommodations, and communicate with your instructors. You can contact her at sgallenberg@ucsd.edu.
